Missionary's
Message
Let's suppose for a moment that I
were sailing in a small boat. Then, let's suppose that for some
reason my boat sank. Now, I am floating in the water. I know that I
will soon die if no one comes to rescue me. I am so far out in the
ocean. I cannot see land or any other ships. I am alone.
Then, I hear something. It sounds like singing. Then, I see it. A
ship. It was a big one that looked safe and secure. I call for help
and wave my arms. But, no one sees me. Just as the ship is about to
pass me by, one man on the back of the boat sees me. I cry out,
"Throw me a line!"
What if he looked back at me and said, "I'm sorry. I am not the
captain or the owner of this boat. I am not sure if I am allowed to
throw you a rope. This isn't my boat. I am sorry, but I can't help
you."
Somewhat shocked, I would cry out again, "Throw me a line!"
What if he looked back at me and said, "I'm sorry. I am not a
crewman on this boat. I am just a passenger. They do not pay me to
throw ropes. I am sorry, but I can't help you." Or, what if he
looked back at me and said, "I'm sorry. But, I just got on the boat
yesterday. I do not know how to throw a rope. I had one thrown to me
and that is all the rope I have seen." Or, What if he looked
back at me and said, "I'm sorry. But, I didn't go to the Baptist
Bible Line Throwing College. You know you must be trained for four
years to be qualified to throw a rope to a drowning man."
I might say to him, "I don't care if you didn't graduate from
kindergarten. Throw me a ROPE!!!
What if he looked back at me and said, "Oh, hi there son. It's a
nice day for a swim isn't it? You need a rope, you say? Well, let me
tell you a little something. I've been on this boat for 50 years. I
have watched others throw a lot of ropes. They say it is wonderful,
but I have never tried it. I am sure someone else will throw one to
you. Alright?"
I would cry out, "PLEASE, JUST THROW ME A ROPE!!!"
This whole world is lost and on their way to hell. They are
crying out for someone to give them something that will satisfy the
empty place in their hearts. They reach for drugs, alcohol, rock
music, money, immorality, morality, and all the things this world
has to offer, but they are not satisfied and never will be. We must
keep throwing them a rope. They may not like the rope we throw them,
but we must keep on throwing it to them because Jesus is their only
hope. |
